Battery Fleet Logistics: Organizing Camera-Department Power

Posted by Innerspace Cases on 1st Jul 2026

Nobody wraps a shoot talking about the battery case. But watch a camera department load in, and power is the first thing that has to work: bricks charged, counts right, chargers where they should be. A battery fleet that travels as a labeled, cavity-per-pack case system just works. A battery fleet that travels as a duffel bag of bricks becomes an inventory problem with a fire code attached.

Cells want padding and separation

Modern camera bricks are tough, but their failure modes are not ones to flirt with. Terminals want protection from shorting against anything conductive; housings want to not take corner drops; and packs want to not grind against each other for two hours of truck time. A foam layout with one cavity per pack, terminals oriented consistently, does all three — and makes a damaged or swollen pack visually obvious the moment the lid opens.

The count is the feature

Power fleets are where the empty-cavity principle earns its keep daily. Twelve cavities, eleven batteries: something is still on a charger somewhere, and you know it before the truck door closes. Rental houses and owner-operators alike standardize battery cases for exactly this — the case is the count. Add chargers and distribution in their own cavities and the whole power department becomes one case-check at wrap.

Flying changes the layout

Lithium-ion spares belong in the cabin under current FAA guidance, which means a flying kit needs its batteries extractable in seconds — top-layer cavities, not buried under chargers. If your power package flies, say so when you spec the case; it changes where everything goes. (More on flying with camera gear in our air travel guide.)

We build power layouts for Anton/Bauer and Core SWX fleets, from single-camera kits to rental counts. Tell us your loadout — packs, chargers, plates, cabling — and we cut the case around it.
