The ARRI MB-20ii is a studio matte box in the multi-thousand-dollar class, and the parts that break are not the frame — they are the rotating filter stages, the swing-away hinge, and the French flag. This case protects all of them for a fraction of the matte box's value.
CNC-cut foam holds the MB-20ii in a contoured pocket with the filter stages supported and the flag folded into its own relieved well, so nothing bears on the hinge in transit. Separate fitted wells carry the filter trays, the rod bracket, and the hardware — each in its own place. That count-at-a-glance layout means an AC or rental desk sees at a glance whether every tray and clamp made it back before the case is signed in — filter trays are the single most-lost matte box part on a wrap.
An ATA-grade case is also what makes a freight claim winnable — carriers deny damage claims on self-packed equipment, while an ATA case makes the shipment insurable and the claim defensible. What fits inside?
As built, the MB-20ii matte box in a contoured pocket plus fitted wells for the filter trays, French flag, rod bracket, and mounting hardware.
Can it be built to hold the matte box with a follow focus attached?
Yes — we build this layout both ways. A combined MB-20ii and FF-4/FF-5 case keeps the front end together as one unit, or we cut a matte-box-only case if the follow focus travels separately. Tell us which on the quote.
Are the filter trays protected separately?
Yes. Trays get their own slotted wells rather than riding loose against the matte box, so glass never contacts the frame and a missing tray is obvious before the case leaves set.
Will it take a different ARRI matte box?
We build for the full MB and LMB range — MB-14, MB-18, MB-19, MB-28, LMB-5, LMB-6, LMB 4x5, LMB 15/25, SMB-2 and the mmB series. Tell us the model and we cut to it.
