The ARRI M90 is a 9000W HMI — a heavy cast lamp head with a glass globe inside it, which is the whole problem in transit. A cracked globe is an expensive, slow replacement and it never fails at a convenient moment. This heavy-duty ATA case protects the head for a fraction of the fixture's value.
CNC-cut foam carries the head in a contoured cradle that supports the cast body across multiple contact points, with the reflector and globe protected and nothing loading the lens or the front glass. Separate fitted wells carry the reflector, the spare lamp, the header cable and the yoke hardware. That count-at-a-glance layout means a gaffer or rental desk sees at a glance whether the spare globe and every cable made it back before the case is signed in — an HMI without its header cable is a very heavy paperweight.
An ATA-grade case is also what makes a freight claim winnable — carriers deny damage claims on self-packed equipment, while an ATA case makes the shipment insurable and the claim defensible. What fits inside?
As built, the M90 lamp head in a contoured cradle with the reflector and globe protected, plus fitted wells for the reflector, spare lamp, header cable, and yoke hardware.
Does the ballast travel in the same case?
Usually not — an M90 ballast is heavy enough to want its own case, and we build a dedicated M90 ballast case for exactly that reason. We can also build a combined head-and-ballast case if you'd rather move one unit. Tell us which on the quote.
Is the globe really protected, or just the head?
The head is cradled so that impact loads pass through the cast body, never through the globe or reflector. We also cut a dedicated well for a spare lamp, because the sensible answer to a fragile globe is carrying a second one.
Will it take an M18 or M40 instead?
Yes — we build across the M-Series, including M18 kits with the ballast and cable runs. Tell us the head and what travels with it.
